Attack on Titan Reveals Feature-Length Runtime for Series Finale

Attack on Titan's anime series finale is set to release next month, and according to the anime's official X (Twitter) account, it will boast a massive, feature-length runtime compared to the length of usual episodes.

The account made a post revealing the release of The Final Season: Final Part on Nov. 4, which will conclude the long-running anime series' fourth and final season with the second half of its two-part finale. Not only is the release date one week away, but the account also confirmed an 85-minute runtime for the premiere -- the longest release in the series' history -- which is set to air on the Japanese NHK General channel online.

Attack on Titan is a massively popular post-apocalyptic anime series about the last members of humanity fighting for survival against giant man-eating monsters that seek to wipe them out. Adapted from Hajime Isayama's manga series of the same name, the anime celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, having first premiered in 2013. It is now entering its final arc, which will serve as the conclusion to four seasons' worth of content.

Finally arriving in early November, The Final Season will adapt the manga's last few chapters, which saw the remaining members of the Scout Regiment fighting to stop the apocalyptic Rumbling that would see the majority of the surviving members of the Eldian race wiped out completely. The manga's original ending was highly controversial upon release, with many fans calling for a follow-up chapter or even for Isayama to rerelease and change the final chapter. Although an extended version of the final volume is set to release along with an upcoming art book, the ending of the manga remains the same.

Despite its massive popularity, Attack on Titan has been plagued by production issues and delays throughout its four-season run. The original animation studio behind the series, Wit Studio, eventually left due to budget issues, with MAPPA taking over for its fourth and final season. However, this did not stop the production's many issues, as MAPPA animators began reporting that the studio was overworking them for unfair pay in order to meet deadlines, which led them to split the season into multiple parts for a gradual release across two years.

Attack on Titan: The Final Season Final Part airs on Nov. 4 via the NHK General channel in Japan. Fans can tune into the premiere on the anime's official website or catch up on the series on Hulu, where new episodes release after they air in Japan.
