Bryn Apprill is temporarily taking over the role of Anya Forger in Spy x Family Season 2's English dub.
On Oct. 26, Spy x Family's official English dub X account announced that Bryn Apprill would step in to take on the role while Anya's English-language voice actor, Megan Shipman, in on maternity leave. Shipman, who also uses the X handle @18moptop, retweeted the original message while thanking Apprill and the other members of the English VA staff, writing, "Everyone on the @Spyfamily_en team has been awesome in helping me organize my temporary maternity leave and I'm so grateful to Bryn for stepping up while I take some time to enjoy motherhood!"
Bryn Apprill has portrayed characters in several iconic anime series. In Attack on Titan, she plays the role of Christa Renz/Historia Reiss in the series' English dub. She also portrays Nagisa Kashiwagi from A-1 Pictures' popular romantic-comedy Kaguya sama: Love Is War and Ibara Shiozaki from My Hero Academia. In addition to her role as Anya Forger, Shipman is also well-known for portraying Norea Du Noc from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury and Mare Bella Fiore from Overlord.
Spy x Family's highly-anticipated second season premiered on Oct. 7, taking viewers back into the bizarrely endearing world of the Forger family. Based on Tatsuya Endo's hit manga, Spy x Family revolves around Secret Agent Twilight, who concocts an intricate scheme to infiltrate the Elite Eden Academy and get closer to Donovan Desmond, the elusive prime minister of Westalis' border nation, in order to preserve world peace. As part of his cover, he takes a wife named Yor Forger and adopts a little girl named Anya, enrolling the latter into the prestigious school. Unbeknownst to Twilight, Yor happens to be an elite assassin, while Anya is an empath who can read his every thought. Despite frequent misunderstandings and complications, the unusual trio form a genuine familial bond.
While Season 2 will only have half as many episodes as its previous installment, Spy x Family has two other major projects on the horizon. The franchise's first animated film, Spy x Family: Code White, will cover an original side-story where the Forger Family embarks on a quest to obtain a special dessert for Anya's headmaster. In the process, Anya sets off a chain of events that could potentially reignite the conflict between Westalis and Ostania. This film is scheduled to premiere in Japan on Dec. 22. Spy x Family also has an upcoming video game installment called SPY X ANYA: Operation Memories -- a life-simulator where players assume the role of Anya and participate in various activities both at home and school. Outside Japan, the game is set for release in 2024.
