One Piece Partners With Seiko to Release Upcoming Gear 5 Watch

As the anime ticks to its 25th year anniversary in 2024, One Piece has announced a new partnership with the popular watchmaker Seiko.

The "Seiko x ONE PIECE Monkey D. Luffy Gear 5 edition" watch by Seiko features three auxiliary dials on the watch face. One teases Luffy's devil fruit, the Gomu Gomu no Mi (Gum Gum Fruit), and another has the symbol "D." alluding to Luffy's association with the Will of D. -- something he shares with other iconic characters like Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard), Gol D. Roger, Trafalgar D. Water Law, and more. The minutes dial also has the iconic Nika reference, when Luffy first underwent the Gear Fifth transformation. Made in Japan from stainless steel, the watch is water-resistant up to 10 bars of pressure and has a bold "GEAR 5" printed on the back, along with chromatic finish on the packaging box.

The Seiko x One Piece watch ships in Japan in mid-February 2024 from the Premico online store for around US$300 and comes in three sizes: S (16.5cm), M (17.5cm) and L (19.5cm). The site adds that the quartz watch movement is expected to shift somewhere between ±15 seconds every month. It's currently not known if international shipping will be available given that the site currently only has domestic options.

Premico is a regular collaborator with One Piece. Past offerings include a One Piece wallet inspired by Luffy, Zoro, Sanji and Ace, and the company's "Seiko x One Piece watch" is only its latest, following the "One Piece Strong Three", "Seiko x One Piece 1000th episode commemoration", "One Piece Sea Encounters", "Bond of Three Brothers" watches and many more.

The watch joins a number of celebrations due to take place in 2024. As part of the One Piece anime's 25th anniversary celebrations, Anytime One Piece was recently announced. This will be a live stream active on the official One Piece YouTube Channel, making all episodes available 24/7, 365 days a year. It should be noted that the totality of the One Piece anime, movies and specials comes up to over 20 days' worth of content. While this has currently been announced for Japanese fans, the official North American account for Toei has also teased celebrations for international watchers.
